Audience Analysis

WhoWhen preparing a PowerPoint presentation, it is important to analyze the audience since they are the listeners. One of the first things you need to consider is who is going to use the information presented and how it will be beneficial to him or her. By considering how the audience feels about your topic and the way that it is presented, you will be able to keep your information organized, relevant, and interesting. It is also a good idea to match your text and visuals to the informal or formal tone required by your audience.

If you are presenting information that is highly debatable, be sure to include credible and accurate evidence to support your arguments. You should also consider how the audience has responded to similar presentations in the past. This can be important in determining other mediums that you might want to include in your PowerPoint such as audio and/or video.

Lastly, think about the size of your audience and the organization of the room in which your presentation will be given. Will all students be able to see and hear the presentation? Make sure that images and video are large enough to be seen and that all text is in large, easy-to-read fonts. If more than one screen is available, consider using both so that students in all areas of the classroom can easily view the presentation.
