Hello, my name is Lauren, and I am a student here at CMC. Although you probably know what plagiarism is, you might not know the finer points of what are called "e-ethics." E-ethics are the moral principles used by students when citing research that gives credit to their sources.
Unfortunately, not all students demonstrate e-ethics in their academic lives. According to the Center for Academic Integrity, almost 80% of college students admit to cheating at least once.
To help you steer clear of plagiarism and other technological pitfalls, we at ITS have designed a program that covers all the different aspects of e-ethics.
During this program, I will clarify when and what to cite, offer tips to avoid plagiarism, discuss the consequences of illegal downloading, and demonstrate how to use the online resource of www.turnitin.com.
Objectives:
Once you have finished this study guide, you will:
Be aware of the college’s policy on plagiarism
Be able to prevent plagiarism in all projects – research papers, literature papers, etc.
Know when and how to use different methods of in-text citation while drafting papers
Have the knowledge to use www.turnitin.com
Workload:
You should be able to finish this entire program in about two hours. If you prefer, you can go through the program at your own pace, or skip to individual topics of interest. This program is an important asset to anyone interested in furthering their abilities regarding e-ethics and working against plagiarism.
